If you’re not already in a conversation with them, they’re not open to receiving help, or there’s no time to spare. Call emergency services (in Australia, this is Triple Zero: 000).
If they told you how they're feeling in confidence, getting them life-saving help is more important than keeping their secret. In Australia, suicide is not a crime, so the person will not get into legal trouble, and the police and ambulance service can respond to a suicidal crisis.
If you're in a conversation with them, and it feels appropriate, you could encourage them to call emergency services. If you're calling to get help for someone else who is unable or unwilling to call themselves, get the person’s permission first if you can. If that isn't possible, then let them know that you've
called emergency services.
If you call emergency services, it’s a good idea to take screenshots or screen record the content, so you can share these, if needed.
After emergency services have been contacted, and if you can, contact the person’s friends or family and tell them what’s happened.
