We’d love to hear your feedback on what you liked and what could be done better. Play a part in shaping youth mental health policy and help contribute to a better future for young people.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
To participate, we just need two hours of your time – one hour of preparation and one hour being part of a discussion group (on Zoom). We will pay you for your time at a rate of $30 per hour ($60 for two hours).
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
If you want to be involved, please send an email to Cameron Boyle (he/him), Senior Policy Analyst at Orygen at [email protected] or fill out the form below. Please provide your responses by Monday 7 March 2021. Cameron will then be in touch with further information within a week after this date.

BACKGROUND
When a young person leaves mental health care, or there are changes to their care, it is vital to ensure that the young person’s wellbeing is supported through this change. This need for support is the focus of the service transitions policy project.
Orygen is developing a policy paper examining how young people transition between, or out-of, mental health care in Australia and looking at how young people’s mental health and wellbeing can be supported.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Young people in the discussion group will contribute to shaping youth mental health public policy. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of policy solutions which will be provided to the Australian Government and will also be made publicly available (you can see examples of our policy papers here - https://www.orygen.org.au/Policy/Policy-Areas).
Your involvement will be acknowledged, with your approval, in the publicly available policy paper. There may also be the opportunity to be involved in promoting the policy paper.
WHAT WILL THE THIS INVOLVE?
The discussion group will consider the following topics:
- What can community mental health services (such as headspace or general practitioners [GPs]) do to support young people moving between services?
- The youth-to-adult mental health service boundary. What is needed?
- How to help young people re-engage with mental health care.
- Supports for young people leaving acute mental health care (i.e. hospitals).
Meetings will be held online through Zoom. The meetings will be one hour in length. Participants will be paid at a rate of $30p/h for each meeting and for one hour of preparation (~$60 per meeting).
Each consultation session will include a maximum of six young people. If there is significant interest, then multiple sessions may be held.
WHAT SUPPORTS WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO?
You will have access to wellbeing supports – including debriefing opportunities, and access to support persons. We will try to ensure that meetings are as accessible as possible (such as captioned meetings, or translated material) and we welcome suggestions on what can be done to help with your participation.
WHO WILL BE INVOLVED?
This project is being managed by Cameron Boyle (he/him), Senior Policy Analyst at Orygen. Cameron has worked for over ten years in policy, primarily for State Governments and has worked for Orygen for two years on various topics relevant to youth mental health.
At group meetings, Cameron will be present with another Orygen staff member with experience working with young people. Outside of the two Orygen staff members, the other people involved will be young people from a range of experiences and backgrounds.
