Youth in governance: Apply to become a youth advisor to Orygen's Audit and Risk Board Subcommittee

17 May 2023

What's involved

The Audit and Risk committee advises the Board to make sure Orygen:

  1. Meets its professional and legal obligations related to finance, laws, or other requirements of the organisation set out by governments or key bodies.
  2. Manages critical areas of organisational risk adequately and effectively.

Youth Advisors will need to attend a minimum of four Audit and Risk Committee meetings per year (either in person in Parkville, Melbourne, Victoria or virtually) as well as key coaching sessions and training. Youth Advisors will be expected to prepare appropriately (including reading papers before meetings and attending pre-briefing meetings) and constructively share their perspectives as young people with lived experience of mental-ill health of a key stakeholder group during Audit and Risk Committee meetings.

The term of this opportunity is three years.

About you

We encourage you to apply if you:

  • Are young people with lived experience of mental ill-health aged between 18 and 30 who share a passion for Orygen’s objectives and vision.
  • Are interested in governance, risk, financial and/or compliance matters related to not-for-profit organisations.
  • Hold a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.
  • Can contribute to discussions at a strategic or systemic level.
  • Have the desire to develop leadership skills further.
  • Can commit to a three-year term and attend all coaching and training opportunities.
  • Applicants cannot be current Orygen employees.

We want the governance structures to be as diverse as the young people we provide services and support to. We encourage all young people who meet the above criteria to apply, including young people who:

  • are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
  • are a member of one or more of the LGBTIQA+ communities;
