Hats for Hope Floral HatHats for Hope is an annual charity fundraiser that raises money for Orygen’s suicide prevention projects. This year was a sell-out and attracted over 250 people to the beautiful Mural Hall in Myer Melbourne. The fundraiser of is the brainchild of Arlene Bennett, Michelle Stevens and Joanne Rae, three women who share a passion for ensuring that young people get to live long and healthy lives.

 

Hats for Hope Fundraiser GalaThe day began with a welcome by Orygen’s Executive Director, Professor Patrick McGorry followed by Orygen’s Head of Suicide Prevention Research Dr Jo Robinson who spoke about some of the suicide prevention projects Orygen is leading. The jewel in the crown was a fashion parade featuring a unique and private collection of stunning vintage Christian Dior hats commented on by milliner extraordinaire Peter Jago. The day also included an auction, raffles, food, drink and dancing.

 

Hats for Hope SpeechBut without doubt, the highlight came when Bridget, a member of Orygen’s newly formed ‘live it speak it’ group,  took to the stage to speak warmly and honestly about her lived experience with mental ill-health and how recovery is possible.
