Orygen Revolutionaries members are caring individuals who have chosen to remember Orygen in their Will. They share our belief that research is the most powerful tool in the fight against youth mental ill-health and want to invest in a better future for our young people.

Many of our Orygen Revolutionaries supporters – past and present – have helped our researchers make pioneering early intervention for young people with mental ill-health and significantly enhanced recovery and their capacity to lead a full and productive life. Ensuring young people with mental ill-health are able to access the care they need, when they need it and where they need it.

Meet a revolutionary Lorraine Cook

Lorraine was one of our first Orygen Revolutionaries members. She has endured the pain and devastation of losing a loved one to suicide – her beloved son Jonathan at the tender age of 19.

Lorraine has donated the majority of her estate to Orygen’s schizophrenia early intervention clinical research to help ensure other families don’t go through the same pain.

“I didn’t know anyone that had died by suicide, didn’t know a single person. You knew it happened,” Lorraine said.

“Jonathan never talked to us. It didn’t occur to me that this could happen. I didn’t know anything about mental health. I was so naive. I used to think that you learnt a lot from working. I was entirely ignorant and didn’t go any further to not be ignorant.”
