What is your specific area of interest in youth mental health advocacy?

Group Advocacy and Peer Advocacy.

why is youth mental health advocacy important to you?

I believe that mental health advocacy is important because it lets me work to create sustained support for young people and it is a tool to create a better service for everyone. Where everyone deserves a happy life.

how would you describe mental health in your community?

Mental health awareness remains unclear in my community, but it becomes noticeable because it is gaining attention due to tangible real-life consequences. We have young people who are affected by mental health problems and many young people who are trying to improve understanding of mental health issues and raise awareness in the community.

Project Summary

Youth who attend alternative schools in the Vietnamese education system which are specifically for the disadvantaged face mental health issues. I suggest starting peer support groups inside these schools to deal with this problem. This idea supports solving mental health issues among this vulnerable group by building long-term, student-led resources.

Project objectives

  • Establish peer support groups in these alternative schools to promote a sense of community and to provide young people with a safe place to talk about and manage their mental health issues.
  • Promote greater understanding and awareness of mental health concerns among students, teachers, social workers and parents through lowering stigma and promoting open dialogue.
