Melbourne’s North-West region has always been a key area of interest for Orygen, given our four headspace centres in the region, so when we were approached by Hobson’s Bay City Council to partner on a community event about youth suicide prevention we were keen to be on board.

The half-day Community Leader Forum event, held the week preceding World Suicide Prevention Day, provided a platform to discuss the issue of suicide prevention, the work Orygen is doing to tackle the devastatingly high suicide rates and what Hobson’s Bay and other local councils can do. Hearing from two young people on the day, including Taylor Johnstone, a member of Orygen’s Youth Research Council cemented all attendees' passion and commitment to prevent more youth suicides.
