Cross cultural capacity training commences at Orygen

As part of Orygen’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), the organisation committed to supporting the cultural development of staff by providing cultural awareness training. Facilitated by Clinton Schultz and Stacey Vervoort from Marumali Consultations, this began two weeks ago with staff from all divisions attending cross cultural capacity training sessions that covered topics such as understanding the ongoing journey of cultural competence, the historical and political issues that have shaped Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the model of Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing, and examined these areas within the context of the work we do across all of Orygen’s Divisions.

The feedback from staff who has attended thus far has been overwhelmingly positive.

This has changed my life!”

“This was one of the best training experiences I have had”

“I came assuming this would be tokenistic training.  But it was absolutely excellent, really genuine and meant a real shift in knowledge and attitudes and with that that sort of shift, I believe that Orygen can really start to make changes and differences that will be meaningful”

The cultural training continues until the end of November.
