Genetics and the onset of mental illness symposium

Orygen had the pleasure of holding a special symposium on Monday, 27 February, on the topic of ‘Genetics and the onset of mental illness’ with the help local and international guests from Harvard’s Broad Institute and Stanley Center, the University of Queensland and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Highlights from the day included Professor Steven Hyman, Associate Professor Steven McCarroll and Dr Elise Robinson from the Broad Institute, talking about innovation in genomics and psychiatric disorders.

The session concluded with a much-anticipated panel which focused on the latest findings and next steps in biomarker research, including implications for early identification and treatment of mental illness.
