National Youth Week 2015

National Youth Week has concluded with organisers claiming the week of celebrations as the best yet.

The weeklong event recognises the achievements of Australia’s youth and saw thousands of young people from all over the country taking part in a host of activities and events around this year’s theme of, 'It Starts With Us'.

As The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health, Orygen is firmly focused on improving the lives of our young people and joined in the celebrations by featuring multimedia content around young people and their health for online and our social media platforms.

The week kicked off with a message from our Executive Director, Professor Patrick McGorry.

We had handy tips on keeping mentally and physically fit.

We also spoke with young people to get a snap shot of what they’re thinking at the moment.

And we chatted with Rebecca Lanigan, a 22 year-old Victorian who was nominated as a National Youth Awards finalist in category of Youth Health.

Young people accessing headspace Sunshine and Orygen Youth Health Clinical Program services made a quilt wall-hanging for the Sunshine office waiting room. They were invited to create a patch of art inspired by the National Youth Week 2015 theme. The result was fantastic!

Orygen looks forward to participating in next year’s National Youth Week and encouraging young people to look after their mental health, and the mental health of their friends and family.
