WELLCOME TRUST COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTIONS

Early in 2026, Orygen Global began working with the Wellcome Trust to establish and manage a global Community of Practice (CoP) to bring together multidisciplinary teams funded through the Wellcome Trust Mental Health Award: Transforming Early Intervention for Anxiety, Depression and Psychosis in Young People, to accelerate shared learning and collective problem‑solving.

Launched in May, the CoP is designed to strengthen the development, real-world testing, implementation and scaling of evidence-based psychological and social interventions that can improve mental health outcomes for young people.

In total, 16 intervention teams will participate in the CoP, with interventions aiming to reach youth across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and the UK.

Building on the success and lessons learned from leading the Being Initiative’s Learning and Support Network, Orygen Global will apply a similar approach and methodology to establish and maintain this CoP.  Lived experience is at the centre of the model and will inform the CoP through multiple avenues. This includes the Lived Experience Advisory Group  and a dedicated Lived Experience Network Coordinator who will ensure the safe and meaningful participation of lived experience.

The key pillars that will drive and deliver the CoP are:

  • Thematic area leads with research expertise in a particular topic.
  • Regional hubs with implementation expertise.
  • Central infrastructure, to provide advice, operational support and coordination.
  • A Lived Experience Advisory Group to ensure lived experience perspectives are intertwined with decisions on learning and support.

Key activities will include:

  • The establishment of a resource hub and learning space to serve as a common repository for tools, templates, and evidence summaries.
  • A dedicated online platform to provide a shared space for intervention teams to connect.
  • Learning Labs, Case Clinics and Action Working Groups to support foundational knowledge, collaborative problem-solving, peer knowledge exchange and networking.
